An absolutely “Hellish” day for me here in Manila, a big, noisy and chaotic city. In a 3 hour time period at the Mall of Asia; I had no luck getting my computer fixed and an ATM machine decided to confiscate my Debit card. High anxiety thoughts start bouncied through my head.….can my data and pictures be saved? How am I going to get my card back and if I do will I’ll be able to use it again? How can I make “these” people understand how serious this is, that I am thousands of miles from my bank traveling on a cruise ship until the end of April. So in one full swoop my ability to communicate with my friends and family has come to a stop and my ability to access my money has been comprised It was no wonder that I felt rattled, two basic human needs (communication and financial security) were being threatened.

It all eventually worked out but only after spending frustrating hours of talking to people who were trying to help but whose English was weak. I will now buy a new computer in Hong Kong and I am once again in possession of my debit card which I understand I will be able to use in HK. Thankfully no fraudulent activity has been seen on my account. I can’t tell you how soothing it was to talk to an American with a New England accent, a good ole DCU (Digital Credit Union) customer service rep.
I was emotionally drained when both my friend. Dawn and I returned to the ship at 6:30 pm. I am so thankful that she was with me, not only did she help to keep me calm, she loaned me money for lunch and let me use her credit card to pay for the work done on my computer and the few purchase that I made.
I really didn’t feel like going up to the Lido for dinner but I forced myself because I don’t like eating in the cabin. I had a small dinner of cheese and crackers with my new Aussie friend, Peter and a couple from Seattle. I then sat in the Hot tub and went to bed early. No show or movie. I’ve had enough of media over load.
I did manage to take the following pictures, so the day wasn’t a complete waste.
